The Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach & Area has honoured three great men: Doug Culham, George Watson and Bruce Young received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award off the hands of President Martin Jurgeit. Just a few minutes earlier, Martin had taken over office from Bob Gruzuk. Charter member Walter Borthwick lauded the three individuals and gave a brief but meaningful background on them.

Doug Culham is a long time Wasaga Beach resident and one of the Town's true business pioneers. Doug started out with a hardware store and made it through good and bad times. During all these years he never forgot his community and the people living in it. Doug is always there when help is needed, and on countless occasions he helped out wherever he could. Doug is a very active member of the Manitou Shrine Club, an organisation that operates Children's Hospitals all over North America. The Club's award committee has chosen Doug, who is not a Rotarian, to honour this great man's contributions.

Rotary Club Member Bruce Young, an electrical engineer by trade, has served the Rotarian cause for many years. He dedicates a great deal of his time to all kinds of humanitarian projects. Bruce accompanied Rotarians from District 7010 to Trinidad/Tobago where they distributed hundreds of wheelchairs to people in need. Bruce was also involved in our Club's water well project in Bangladesh. With his vast international experience as a project leader, Bruce made sure that the funds and matching R.I. grants were used appropriately. Thanks to Rotarian Bruce, hundreds of villagers now have fresh, unspoiled drinking water. Bruce is also strongly involved with our annual Corvette Lottery. If it wasn't for him, many tickets would not have been sold over the years.

Rotarian George Watson is a long-time Wasaga Beach resident and respected business man. Not only has he contributed a lot to the Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach and Area, he also serves his community wherever he can. George was the 1989-90 Club President and has been working on countless fundraising committees, for instance equipping local schools with musical instruments. George also served his Town on Town Council and is a leading volunteer in several business and professional associations such as the Wasaga Beach Builders and Constructors Association or the South Georgian Bay Real Estate Board.
